FLATHEAD Power now includes reproduction transmission covers for ‘40-’50 Big Twins in its range. Designed to be as authentic as possible, the covers feature copies of the original pieces’ raised cast-on part numbers.
The new covers are cast in 356-T6 aluminum and then CNC machined to provide additional material around the kicker boss for strength and stability. A single bushing is used for complete oiling with a modern small diameter seal hidden after assembly. The covers utilize the stock hardware and filler plug, and a new gasket is included.
Three versions of the cover are available; the J7 cover, which is authentic externally for ‘49 - ‘50 Big Twins and has a raised cast-on part number that was authentic from ‘48 - ‘50; the G6 cover that duplicates the external shape for ‘40 - ‘47, including a stamped-in part number just as the original, and the 00 cover, which has no part number or date code. This final version was created for custom applications where authenticity isn’t a necessity or polishing or other finishes are desired.

BARNETT’S newest 3in belt drive is the Black Scorpion. The drive is CNC machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminum, which is polished before being given a black anodized finish.
The drives also feature a Scorpion lock-up clutch capable of handling engines producing in excess of 200hp, making the drive suitable for both street and strip use. The Scorpion lock-up clutch is claimed to increase the clutch surface area, allowing the use of lighter coil springs by using adjustable pressure arms that progressively increase clutch pressure as the engine rpm increases. Extra spring sets are included for added adjustability.
The Black Scorpion belt drive is available for ‘90-’06 Softails and ‘90-’05 Dynas and can be ordered with or without a rear bearing support.

BAKER Drivetrain has created the F6R reverse kit for 2007-2008 factory Cruise Drive six-speeds to meet the demands of an aging demographic of Harley riders. The F6R provides a reverse gear which is especially useful for riders of large touring bikes, side cars, trailer users and trikes who find it difficult to push a bike backwards.
Lehman Trikes adopted the technology for its Harley-Davidson three-wheel motorcycles and now, the F6R is exclusively distributed via Lehman Trikes and Baker Drivetrain.
Reverse is selected by moving the foot shift lever. Down shift into 1st gear, engage the electric safety switch near the handle bars and down shift again to select reverse. Up shift into 1st after completing the reverse maneuver to continue down the road.
Internally, the shift drum indexes to select reverse. The drum inherently functions as an interlock and makes it impossible to select reverse and another gear simultaneously.
The F6R is over-designed to make it durable under all conditions. Reverse gears and dogs are fully case hardened to HRC58-62 making the F6R as durable in reverse as it is in forward gears. Reverse gear ratio is 4.98:1. This compares to the 1st gear ratio of 3.34 making it 45 percent shorter than 1st gear.
The system is compatible with the Baker F6F which reduces 5th gear noise, and is available with cable type or hydraulic clutch actuator side cover. Baker offers an install service on the F6R on low mile six-speed gearsets sent to it for a nominal charge.

DETAILS are emerging of a revolutionary new transmission which was being tested by Baker Drivetrain during Daytona Bike Week. The new gearset, named the DD7, is a seven-speed direct replacement for the factory Cruise Drive six-speed.
The new transmission has been developed to overcome a number of issues with the stock six-speed system. The DD7 has a shorter 1st gear for easier launches compared to the tall factory 1st gear.
The ’shift clunk’ of the stock gearbox is claimed to be eliminated due to the use of a lightweight mainshaft in the DD7, which includes only the small 1st gear as an integral part. The stock H-D mainshaft is a one-piece design that includes 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears, making it extremely heavy, thus causing the shift clunk.
Baker further claims that the shifting of the new transmission is smoother than the factory six-speed through the incorporation of a linear roller ball detent as part of the supplied billet top cover. It is similar to the type first used on Baker’s TorqueBox transmissions.
Unlike the part it replaces, which has straight cut 1st and 5th gears, the DD7 has a full set of helical gears for quiet operation in every gear.
The DD7 Builder’s kits will come ready to slide in the bike, with no case modifications, shimming of the gearset or adjustments required. The 7th main drive gear is included in Builder’s kit, to replace 6th main and re-uses the stock shifter pawl. The kit will be available for 2006-2008 Dyna and 2007-2008 Softails and FLs.

BAKER Drivetrain has extended its line of transmission products to include clutches. The company’s clutch, the King Kong Klutch, features the largest diameter clutch plates it is possible to fit inside the starter ring gear in order to reduce lever effort.
The twenty 7in plates used to achieve the lower lever effort in the King Kong are normally found in Cadillac five-speed automatic car transmissions. Additional features include a one-piece steel clutch basket design, 66-tooth ring gear configuration, red hard anodized carrier and pressure plate, hard anodized inner hub for claimed wear resistance, positive pressure plate alignment accomplished with Teflon coated Perma Glide bushings and coil spring design with three different weight springs included.
The King Kong Klutch is available with a 35-, 36-, 37-, or 38-tooth 8620 steel final drive sprocket and is suitable for most H-D applications.
